Happy Halloween
I know, I’m a little late with this one, I know. I’ve been a horrible blogger lately. But I had to post these great pictures of our Halloween at work.
Each year at work, we dress up and decorate our area. The people with the best costumes get prizes and the department with the best decorations get prizes. With us being in marketing, we had to try our hardest to be the most creative and win the prize (one of the prizes was actually a trophy that we, the designers, made from things we found at DI. It was pretty awesome if I do say so myself).
Anyway, last year we themed our area around “Nightmare Before Christmas.” It was amazing. We found lots of cardboard and drew the characters and painted them, and made pumpkins for the pumpkin patch and had a huge moon with Jack standing on the mountain. We put up black plastic bags everywhere and had black lights and other awesome lights from Andrea’s “black DJ” friend. It turned out crazy cool. When we were finished with it, no one could even tell that it was an office anymore. (sadly, I don’t have pictures, maybe there are some at work…)
So this year, we not only had to be awesome because we are marketing, but we had to beat ourselves from last year. So this year’s theme: Monsters Inc.
I have to admit that I was a little worried about how it would turn out. (We didn’t start until Wednesday and we had to have everything finished by Friday at 12 - EEE) But everyone in the department pitched in and it turned out so neat. Check out some pictures:
- Sully at the end with the Scream Tanks holding the Candy
- Walking through Boo's Door into Monstropolis
- Walking into the Movie
- Doors to Sully
- Ros
- Sully
I have to explain some of the pictures a little bit.
Sully: We used a HUGE piece of cardboard for this. It was at least 5 feet 10 inches. So it was LIFE sized. And one of our wonderful MarComms, Damon painted the whole thing. He did an excellent job with the shading and blending. We had no idea he was such an artist.
Ros: We taped Ros up to a door to make it look like she was in her little box and gave her a desk to take forms. Then on her desk we put a bunch of forms that we as a department have to fill out in order to get things done. You gotta love forms! : )
More Doors: Through our area we hung small cardboard doors from the ceiling that everyone in the department helped paint to create the sting of doors that Sully and Mike jump on when they are in search of Boo. (I always thought it looked like so much fun)
Into the Movie: To make it seem like the people we actually walking into the movie, we projected the movie on a cut up shower curtain hanging over the door to enter our area. So when you stood back, you could watch the movie on the shower curtain, but then walked into the movie to get to Boo’s room. (we think we’re pretty smart)
Into Monsters Inc: Right after walking “Into the Movie” the first small area visitors saw was a small room set up to look like Boo’s room. We used a conference table with a blanket over it for the bed and had our Administrative Assistant, Kim’s, niece and nephew draw pictures of Sully and Randall to hang on the wall. Then had Boo’s closet door open for them to walk into Monstropolis.
Sully at the End: We put Sully at the end of a hallway full of doors to wave “hi” to all who visited. We also made two Scream Tanks and put the candy for the trick or treaters to get it out of there.
I love my department! We all pulled together and created something completely wonderful. I know it was only for Halloween, but it just shows how well we work together and how much talent and creativity we have. We also did the Abominable Snowman in his Winter Wonderland, but I don’t have any pictures of that. (maybe later). So anyway. I had a great Halloween. I can’t say that I care much for all the creepy, grusome, blood, guts and gore of Halloween, but this type of stuff I can get into.
