“Hope is not knowledge, but rather the abiding trust that the Lord will fulfill His promise to us. It is confidence that if we live according to God’s laws and the words of His prophets now, we will receive desired blessings in the future. It is believing and expecting that our prayers will be answered. It is manifest in confidence, optimism, enthusiasm, and patient perseverance.”In the language of the gospel, this hope is sure, unwavering, and active. The prophets of old speak of a ‘firm hope’ (Alma 34:41) and a ‘lively hope’ (1 Peter 1:3). It is a hope glorifying God through good works. With hope comes joy and happiness. With hope, we can ‘have patience, and bear . . . [our] afflictions’ (Alma 34:41).”
Dieter F. Uchtdorf, “The Infinite Power of Hope,” Ensign, Nov. 2008, 22
Today I feel full of hope. I feel full of optimism. I feel full of the Love the Savior has for me. I’m so thankful that I subscribe to LDS Gems and that each day I could be inspiried by the words of the living prophets and that so often, they speak exactly to what I am feeling.

In December when I visited Idaho and got a RARE RS lesson, they were speaking on Hope. It was such a great thing to remember. Hope is one of the great three: Faith, Hope, and Charity (that serial comma was just for you:). You must have all three; they don’t really function without the others. I think too often people forget about hope.
Thanks for sharing your gem this morning.
Thanks for the idea, I think I’ll be subscribing to LDS gems now. I know what you mean when you say that the prophets so often speak to exactly what we’re feeling (even though two people hearing the same message may gain an entirely different perspective). It’s too bad the media and news today cannot have more of this insight that we get daily from the gospel and the leaders of our church, because when I turn on the ten o’clock news I definitely don’t feel this good. Thanks again for the gem, it’s a diamond in the rough.
I’m glad you feel full of hope and optimism. Those are some good things to be full of! By the way, I am now paranoid about my use of commas. I know our friendship doesn’t hinge on it, but still. Darin’s niece, Becky Kimball is your co-worker in case you were still curious!
