(I started this post and never finished it and posted it, but I love it so even though it is old, I’m still putting it up and just back-dating it)
Lately James has decided that he wants to do things all by himself. Especially when it is time to eat.
I don’t have a problem with him finding his independence, because I have another baby just around the corner and I’m okay with not having to do EVERYTHING for two babies. What I do have a problem with is how messy his independence happens to be.
He won’t even let me help him eat anymore. And he has to have his own spoon, no matter what the meal.
I love watching him grow up and decide things that he likes and things he doesn’t like. One morning we were having yogurt and graham crackers for breakfast and he decided that he likes to dip the crackers in the yogurt. That was the only way he would eat them for the rest of the meal. He loved it.

We love the Mickey Mouse Clubhouse at our house. We watch it with Leyla in the morning and lately, James has actually started to pay attention to the television and even likes Mickey Mouse Clubhouse too. He gets pretty excited when it’s time for the Hot Dog Dance.
I’m so glad that he gets so excited and likes to dance.

When I was little, I remember reading about raccoon traps (I think it was in Where the Red Fern Grows or some other book, I can’t quite remember). These were traps that were a container of some kind and the hunter placed a small shiny object in the bottom of the container. The raccoon would be attracted to the object and easily slip it’s hand into the container. Once it had the object in it’s hand, it would try to pull it’s hand out of the container, only to discover it couldn’t pull it’s hand back out because it was balled into a fist and no longer fit through the opening of the container. To escape, the raccoon just had to let go of the object, but rarely did and was almost always caught by the hunter.
We bought new treat containers for James that had a similar result on James that raccoon traps had on raccoons.
(this is a test to see if uploading videos, without first uploading to YouTube, works.)

In order to get pregnant, we had to do fertility treatments. With all fertility treatments, you have a higher chance of having multiple babies. The thought of having more than one baby at a time both scared me and excited me.
When the pregnancy test finally gave a positive result, the next step my doctor wanted me to take was to get a blood test to confirm. So we headed off to the hospital to have them draw my blood and make sure that the home pregnancy test wasn’t lying to me. After the specified amount of time I called my doctor’s office to find out the results of the test.
The nurse talking to me looked at the numbers and responded, “Wow, you are definitely pregnant. With these numbers I wouldn’t be surprised if there was more than one baby.” Again, the thought both terrified and excited me. We set up an appointment for an ultrasound to make sure there was a baby, to find out how many babies and to make sure it was connected in the right place.
At the appointment we saw our little peanut for the first time, in all his 6-week glory. And there was only one little peanut. I must admit, I was a little relieved and a little sad…more than one baby excited me and scared me. But I had one baby and that is all that mattered. Life was good.
Now, a year and a couple of months later as I watch this video the thought that I might have had two babies that look like my little guy would be so fun because of how stinkin cute he is… but oh my goodness, it would have been a CRAZY handful.
I’m still so grateful that there was one baby in there. Life is good.

And now he crawls (and yes, that is an old iPhone he is eating at the end… It’s broken and it keeps him away from my phone — most of the time).

Bryan turned his front-facing camera on and recorded James so James could see himself.
James thought it was great.
