I Love to See the Temple

For Labor Day this year, I didn’t want to just sit home and do nothing and neither did my mom. So we decided to go up to Temple Square to see the model of the Salt Lake Temple.

I haven’t been up to Temple Square for a while, so it was great to go up with Bryan and my parents. And it was James’ first time to visit Temple Square. He was pretty excited about going:

We met my parents at their house and all drove up together. The model of the Temple was really neat. I haven’t had the opportunity to go inside the Salt Lake Temple yet, so it was interesting to see what it looks like. Also at the Visitors’ Center with the model was a lot of information about building the temple and its materials. It was kind of fascinating to learn about.

We also shared with James that this is where it all started… Bryan asked me to marry him on Temple Square. The beginning of our little happy family.

We wandered around and enjoyed the fabulous pre-fall weather (not too hot and not too cold; warm in the sun with a cool breeze; perfect weather). James was so good. He did get a little tired of the stroller, but grandma was more than happy to carry him. :)

Then enjoyed taking some pictures by the temple.

After that we went on a tour of the Conference Center. It was so cool. I have only been to the Conference Center twice. Once for a session of General Conference and once as a reporter for Scroll for a session of General Conference. Both times, we were in such a hurry to get to our seats and enjoy the session that I didn’t really get a chance to look around and enjoy the beauty of the building. And we got to go on THE ROOF! I have always wanted to go on the roof of the Conference Center and see the plants up there. It was so interesting. I learned that the plants are all native plants and they start on the east side of the roof with plants that grow on the other side of the Rocky Mountains (the first part of the pioneers’ journey to the Salt Lake Valley) and end on the west side of the roof with plants local to the Salt Lake Valley (the final destination of the pioneers’ journey. Neat. They have so much beautiful artwork in the Conference Center and all of it was originals. There is one room where they have portraits of all the members of the Quorum of the Twelve ever. They are going to run out of wall space in there. I showed James the picture of James E. Faust, one of the other reasons why I wanted to name him James. He was very excited to see it. His blank stare said it all.

It was wonderful.

We ended the day with yummy Cheese Cake Factory. A perfect way to spend Labor Day. I’m so glad that we didn’t stay home and do nothing.

I love Temple Square.

p.s. did you see James’ super awesome Nike Air Jordan’s in the pictures? Love those shoes. Thanks so much to Kim!

Beautiful Mistake

“I-don’t-need-my-dad,-I-don’t-need-a-job,-I’ve-got-great-boots, boots.”  That is one of my favorite quotes from “Friends.”

One of my other favorite quotes: “Too far, Amy. Too far.”

But my favorite Friends quotes are not the point of this post. The real point of this post is that I want these boots:

Great Boots

Great Boots

… and they are on sale at www.alloy.com. They are 4.5 inch heel with a .5 inch plat form and I think they are kind of wonderful.  The thing that makes me sad though, is that I know I should not/can’t buy them.

Not because I don’t have the money

Not because I already have a pair of boots (when is that a reason not to buy shoes though)

Not because I’m trying to save money

Not because Bryan said no

Not because my card is lost

But because a few Sundays ago, I wore my amazing blue shoes that have a very tall heel (I don’t think they are quite 4.5 inch, but they are pretty high) and with my ever increasing belly, lack of normal balance and change in my center of gravity, I realized that my tall heeled shoes may have been a most beautiful mistake.

So I guess for now, I’ll avoid beautiful mistakes like these boots (at least until May or I learn to walk at a normal pace with my new center of gravity).

Deal…NO DEAL

Saturday morning, my sisters, mom and I decided to try out for Deal or No Deal. We learned from KSL channel 5 News that Deal or No Deal was doing a casting here in Salt Lake City at the RC Willey on 2100 S. And I was going. We all decided on our good reason for going and the story that we could tell Howie, filled out the 11 page try-out form and were on our way. All wearing green (green for grass, we decided if we won, we would buy our parents grass for their backyard. They have lived in the house for 9 years and due to my dad losing his job they have never been able to put grass in the backyard. They have dirt).

People waitingWe took Trax up to 2100 S and walked the rest of the way. We had no idea what we were in for. On Trax, you can see the RC Willey right before the 2100 S stop. We looked out the window and masses and masses of people filled the RC Willey parking lot. I don’t think I’ve seen that many people in one place beside Disneyland. We thought, this is crazy, but we didn’t know half of it. So we walked from the Trax station to the RC Willey, looking for the end of the line. And we kept walking, and kept walking, and kept walking. Then we left the RC Willey area, went down the street, down another street, down another street and finally found the end. This picture is a Google map of the area. The pink area is where all the people were. It was pretty insane. But we thought, “Well, it’s a once in a lifetime thing. Let’s do it.” Then after we waited in the sun for a little bit, we though, “well maybe we should see how long it will take us to get to the end of that corner.” And we started making friends with the people in line. We were right in front of a cute pregnant woman and her mom. They were pretty funny and really entertaining to talk to. Once we got to the end of the street, we thought, “well, we’ll go to the next end.” Then someone walking by told us they had been there since 6 in the morning (it was 11 a.m.). 5 hours?! No way. Then someone told us it was probably a 12 hour wait. Now we were seriously questioning our decision. 12 hours? Then an official looking person came around and told us they only had 5 spots left. Odds were not good. So after My New Cute Shoesmuch chatting among ourselves…after only one hour of waiting and only moving 1/4 mile, we decided the best thing we could do at this point is get back on Trax and go buy shoes.

So we did: Although we didn’t make it on Deal or No Deal, we had a great time as girls, came home with cute cute shoes, got a little bit of sun (well Rachel was more than a little bit — she was pretty burned) and now we can say, “We almost tried out for Deal or No Deal.

It was quite an excellent day. If you want to find out more about the audition check out KSL.
